Since its inception in 1950, the School of Medicine has committed itself to producing highly qualified and
experienced medical practitioners dedicated to improving the quality of life of South Africans. The MBChB
programme at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine achieves this using a mix of problem-based
learning, didactic lectures, clinical bedside teaching, rural attachments and research electives. The course is
planned to ensure a high standard of education and training by stimulating and encouraging self-directed learning.
