He has extensive experience partnering with executive leadership and management teams to develop integrated communication strategies that enhance organizational reputation, strengthen stakeholder trust, and support institutional transformation.
His professional journey spans junior, middle-management, and leadership roles, complemented by international academic experience in the Netherlands, where he completed a Master’s degree with a focus on creative autonomy and audience engagement. This global perspective continues to inform his approach to strategic communication, innovation, and meaningful public engagement. Passionate about creating conversations that connect people, ideas, and communities, Memela has successfully led stakeholder engagement initiatives, integrated communication campaigns, strategic events, student recruitment initiatives, and multi-platform content strategies across internal and external communication environments. His expertise includes public relations, reputation management, journalism, brand positioning, digital communication, and the development of compelling content that inspires action and delivers measurable impact. Beyond his institutional roles, he is the Founder and Creative Director of lumela media and the Founder of The Soup Kitchen Mzansi™, initiatives that reflect his commitment to storytelling, cultural dialogue, thought leadership, and creating platforms where meaningful conversations can flourish. A confident public speaker and people-centred leader, Memela has a strong interest in health communication, creative media production, photography, digital innovation, and emerging communication trends. He holds a Code B driver’s license and is available to travel as required. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Communication at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, his alma mater.
