‘Advancing human health through medical research’
The Physician Partnerships Trust was established through Netcare’sHealth Partners for Life (“HPFL”) initiative.
We are inviting medical specialists who wish to further pursue an academic career to apply for the Professor Bongani MayosiNetcareClinical Scholarship for 2019.
The Scholarship will be awarded to a clinical specialist or sub-specialist for doctoral or post-doctoral research to be conducted in South Africa only.
The Scholarship will be awarded a salary for a 3 (three) year period for full-time doctoral or post-doctoral research work in a chosen field.
ELIGIBILITY AND CONDITIONS OF AWARD:
South African citizenship;
Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a medical specialist or sub-specialist;
Preference will be given to applicants who are identified in the country’s employment equity objectives; and
Recipients of the Scholarship must commit to signing a contract binding them to work in South Africa for a minimum period of 3 (three) years following the end of the funding period, failing which they will be liable to pay back the full amount of the Scholarship to the Trust.
APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:
A 1-2 page letter of motivation which should include the amount of funds required per annum for the full-time research;
A 1-2 page summary of the rationale, design and feasibility of the proposed doctoral or post-doctoral research project. (Please provide evidence that funding for the project has been secured, and that facilities and equipment are available in addition to the scholarship award);
A full curriculum vitae outlining their research experience and a list of publications;
Testimonials from three referees, one of whom should be the supervisor of the doctoral or post-doctoral research project; and
To obtain and submit a brief curriculum vitae of the Supervisor and this should outline the supervisors’ research experience and publications.
The value of the award is informed by the needs of the awardee. The award is available from 1 October 2019 or from such otherearlier or later date as may be agreed between the awardee, his/her supervisor and the Board of Trustees of the Trust.
The Awards are made at the sole discretion of the Selection Committee as ratified by the Board of Trustees of the Physicians’Partnerships Trust.
The Board will not enter into correspondence with unsuccessful applicants.
The closing date for applications is 30 June 2019.
Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
