Biosketch | Professor Chuturgoon completed his BSc, BSc (Hons) and MSc degrees at the University of Natal in Toxicology. He thereafter obtained his doctoral degree in toxicology and epigenetics from UKZN. He is a member several scientific associations including SASBMB (South African Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), SAACB (South African Association of Clinical Biochemists) and SOT (America Society of Toxicology). He is on several editorial boards, including Nature (Scientific Reports). He is a recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award for excellence in teaching. He is an NRF rated scientist and was placed in the top 30 UKZN researchers (2016, 2017, and 2018). He has successfully supervised and mentored over 60 Masters, 27 doctoral and 12 postdoctoral fellows to date. He has over 120-ISI refereed publications, edited a book on nanomedicine, 12 chapters in books and over 250 conference proceedings. He is passionate about research and shaping young minds to think critically and steer them away from traditional robotic/dinosaur learning. His wish is to create entrepreneurs or job creators rather than job seekers.. |
