Topic of Dissertation: Characterization of Human Immunodefiency Virus-Specific CD8+ T Cell Responses and their Immunodominance Patterns Following Acute HIV-1 Clade C Infection

Supervisor: Professor T Ndung'u

Ms Radebe has a Masters in Biomedical Technology from the University of Johannesburg and is currently registered for a PhD at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She is characterizing the patterns and features of HIV-1-specific CD8+ T-cell responses during acute HIV-1 infection. The goal of the study is to examine the quality of CD8+ T-cell responses directed against HIV-1 epitopes during acute infection, so that we can better understand the mechanisms of control of HIV replication during the earliest stages of infection. She has been conducting all the experimental work, data analysis and also prepared a manuscript for publication. She is a recipient of the LifeLab/TIA Award (R90 000 pa), which covers living expenses.
